    Social exclusion has been recognized by the Government of Montenegro as one of major societal challenges, and its eradication has been made one of key priorities. With an aim to facilitate access of vulnerable, socially excluded groups to comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable family and community based services, the UNDP partnered with UNICEF, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and Ministry of Education and Sports for the project “Social Welfare and Child Care Reform – Enhancing Social Inclusion“, financed by the EU.

    Until recently, the inhabitants of Pavlovka, a small town in Ukraine, had access to piped water for only three hours a day and sometimes not at all. Every day, the people of this community in Crimea had to carry buckets to a canal to retrieve water, just as the previous generations of the town did. However, in 2008, UNDP’s Crimea Integration and Development Program became a key mover for change for the little town.

    Disabled at birth and born to an art loving family in Basra Southern Iraq, Rami al-Tamimi, now 23, has grown into a fine artist. A spinal birth defect has affected his ability to walk. Yet, to Rami, the ancient city of Basra located on the Shatt al-Arab waterway, being part of the historic location of Sumer and also home to beautiful palm tree farms, has been quite an inspiration.
