Distinguished Participants: On behalf of the UN Family in Mongolia, I warmly welcome you to Mongolia. I also congratulate the Government of Mongolia, OHRLLS and the International Think Tank for LLDCs for organizing this very important workshop. The focus of this Workshop is the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation, but I would like to use this opportunity to bring forth a few additional thoughts – some thoughts on trade and human development.

“For citizens of our aimag, whose gers and houses have high risk to be damaged by fire, low premium insurance service is very important and timely undertaking. So I will not only get insurance for my ger and house but will talk and explain the benefits of insurance to my relatives, neighbors to take insurance services too” said Ts.Baigalmaa, resident of the Kherlen soum of Dornod aimag at the property micro insurance product launching ceremony in Dornod.

The First Ever Induction Training for All Local Elected Representatives

The 3-day Induction training for all local elected representatives started on 17 February 2014 in Bulgan, Dundgobi and Dornod aimags. The training is being organized by aimag council (hural) secretariats under the project “Capacity Strengthening of Local Self-Governing Bodies”. A total of over 900 elected representatives of these 3 aimags are attending the training, which covers seven key topics: Legal environment, hural procedures, public participation, human rights and gender, and environment and green development.

This year’s observance also marks 20 years since a bold step forward in the struggle to make rights a reality for all: the adoption by the World Conference on Human Rights of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action.
