Asia-Pacific regional entrepreneurship development movements expand to Mongolia’s youth

December 23, 2020

Ulaanbaatar - 23 December 2020: Youth entrepreneurship development is critical to address Mongolia’s development challenges and acceleration towards Sustainable Development Goals considering one-third of Mongolia’s population is youth aged between 15-34. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia in collaboration with UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, and Ulaanbaatar City Governors' Office, and the Science, Industrial Development and Innovation Agency (SIDIA) are co-organizing the “Mongol Enterprising Adventure" two-day webinar that aims to support youth with enterprising development tools and resources.

The event is part of the #Activated2030 regional youth economic empowerment platform, and Youth Co: Lab, an initiative co-led by UNDP and Citi Foundation - the largest youth entrepreneurship movement in Asia and the Pacific. Mongolia’s youth will have an opportunity to learn about the regional innovative entrepreneurship support programmes while hearing the inspirational stories and experiences from globally and locally recognized successful youth leaders, startup founders, and game-changers.

Hundreds of participants from all over the country including social entrepreneurs, start-up communities, university students, youth development initiatives departments and agencies, and #HUB innovation centers, SDGs facilitators, volunteers, representatives from the private sector, and local youth participated to this online capacity building event.

The panel discussions with the guest speakers covered topics such as turning ideas into actions, developing an entrepreneurial mindset, and personal branding tools. During the webinar, the participants engaged in the latest business trends, strategies, and solutions to overcome challenges during-and-post the COVID-19 period.

Ms. Nashida Sattar, UNDP Mongolia Deputy Resident Representative, commended the youth for making effort to develop their entrepreneurial skills and stated “Through #Actived2030 project, we are emphasizing three key areas to empower you including earning a living, being an active citizen, and being an entrepreneur. These skills would play such an important role in your future beyond 2020.”

Furthermore, the latest e-platforms such as Zoom and the Mentimeter generated knowledge building quiz competitions, and online consultation moderated to move forward the #Activated2030 activities to support new startups, initiatives, and expand activities at the local #HUB innovation centers.
